We have a crew at the house today making the final touches on the house in preparation for the dedication service this afternoon at 3 p.m. In addition to our team, doctors and administrators from the hospital will be on hand for this special occasion as we dedicate the Sunshine House. This is the first house to have been dedicated to a specific person either in honor or memory of a specific individual. There is a special connection to this house because the house is dedicated in memory of Laurel Childs, mother of team member Catherine Childs. The team is working especially hard on this house because of our love for Catherine. Our team originally consisted of 14 members from the Germantown area, but we had a late addition with Arthur Walker, a retired physician from England who Susan had met on a previous trip. Instead of working in the clinic, he wanted to be a part of building an AIDS orphan's home. He had been to a dedication last year and was so amazed by the love and compassion of the group that he wanted to be a part of it. In fact, on Wednesday, Arthur missed the bus going back up to the house, so he walked for 45 minutes because he wanted to check on the progress of the house. We love Arthur!
Keys to the house today will be given to a family of four. The grandparents are raising two children, a boy 11, and a girl 8, who is HIV positive and is in treatment. The children lost both their parents a few years ago to AIDS.
